For decades, the Haus der Jugend – Fuchsbau has been organizing international encounters between teenagers and young adults from the district and their peers from various partner institutions abroad as part of its cultural education work.
The annual international encounters encourage people from very different cultural and social backgrounds and walks of life to engage with one another and transcend personal, linguistic, and national boundaries. These encounters not only create space for young people to engage in individual and carefree exchange, but also strengthen the social, cultural, and personal skills of all participants in the long term. In addition, these encounters make a decisive contribution to breaking down prejudices at the local and global level.
Since the first contact between participants from two or more countries must be accompanied by excellent educational support, a special focus of the international encounters is on experiential learning initiatives led by the supervisors. Early cooperation and trust-building games as well as language activities ensure, for example, that language barriers and contact difficulties can be gradually broken down. In this way, participants learn to overcome linguistic and cultural hurdles and obstacles with creative means, thus creating space for collegial cooperation.
Furthermore, joint excursions and experiences in Berlin and the surrounding area strengthen group cohesion. The selected activities often have an experiential educational, artistic, or sporting focus and encourage engagement with exciting topics and methods, such as social media, theater, photography, sustainability, and historical research.
